Delicious buñuelos for Christmas parties! Make a batch, package them nicely and gift them to friends and family!
There is a recipe to make dough for buñuelos, but if you like the fast and easy way, or you simply don’t have time to make the dough, you can just buy flour tortillas! Try not to buy the thick flour tortillas that almost look like pita bread (they are good but not the best for this recipe). Buy thin tortillas instead. I used the Trader Joe’s brand and they turned out pretty good and crispy!
For the recipe you will need : Vegetable oil, flour tortillas, sugar and cinnamon. That’s it.
To start just combine 1/4 cup of sugar and 1/4 tsp cinnamon and set aside.
Start by heating enough oil in a small cooking pan on medium high heat. When the oil is hot place the flour tortillas in the oil and turn every 5 to 10 seconds to prevent them from burning. The tortilla forms pretty big bubbles so just pinch them with your tongs.
You want to submerge the tortilla into the oil as much as you can so all of it fries at the same time and you don’t end up with uncooked spots.
As soon as it comes out of the pan place it on a paper towel and immediately coat with cinnamon sugar.
DONE!
