One of my favorite things about living the country life since we moved to our small historic cottage in early 2015 is our miniature “orchard” of cherry trees and apple trees that we have on our property.
While the apples are ready to pick in late August and early September, the cherries ripen much earlier, about the middle of June, which is perfect timing for using them in delicious dishes for summer picnics, get-togethers, and holidays.
Last year, being new to all of this, we were just a little late in taking advantage of the cherries (most of them were taken by the birds), but this year my husband and I were ready! We plucked them from the trees and I made this wonderful, classic recipe for a traditional cherry pie that I found here.
Being my first time making a pie crust from scratch I found this post really helpful, they share a butter pie crust recipe and have different tips and ideas for top crusts, baking, and rolling the dough.
Serve with a spoonful of vanilla ice cream and you’re ready to go. Enjoy!
